Wildlife holidays can be a lot fun when you pick the right destination. One of the top destinations people choose when they go on an adventurous wildlife holiday are the Galapagos Islands. What makes the Galapagos Islands so special is that the animals found there are extremely unique.
Most people don’t realise but wildlife holidays can also be good active holidays. If you like walking holidays the Galapagos Islands have some great trails and places to go. There are lots of other activities you can take part in if you are feeling a little more adventurous than most. These include activities like kayaking, horse riding and snorkelling.
Part of Ecuador the Galapagos Islands can be found 525 miles from land. A UNESCO world heritage site you will be able to see some amazing species of animals residing on the island. 23,000 people live on the Galapagos Islands speaking the native language Spanish.

You will find 11 different species of Galapagos Tortoises on the Islands, there were previously 14 however 3 species recently became extinct. Some of these species are now extinct.
The Pacific Green Turtle is the only sea turtle that has its home on the Galapagos Islands. Going in the early part of the year allows you the opportunity to see these amazing animals laying their eggs in the sand.
You can find many different lizards on the Galapagos Islands and even one that lives in the ocean. You will find the other lizards on land eating cactus plants.
Most people wouldn’t of thought of penguins living on the Galapagos Islands but there they are. These are the only penguins that you can find near to the line of the equator.
There are many more animals that you will be able to see when you visit the Galapagos Islands.
